The Eucharist

The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Catholic Faith. What is so important about it and why should we make the effort to go to Mass every Sunday?

In the Mass, Jesus extends to us an invitation to grow in our relationship with him. We receive him in holy Communion as the guest of our souls. At the consecration of the Mass, the gifts of bread and wine on the altar are transformed into the real body and real blood of Jesus. This is not a representation, a metaphor or a symbol. Preparation For First Holy Communion

Children prepare to receive First Holy Communion in Primary Four. This is an important step in your child’s journey of faith. It is also an important year for their class, their teachers as well as for you the parents/guardians, and for us, the parish community. Along with the sacraments of baptism, and of Confirmation, First holy Communion ie one of the three sacraments of initiation into membership of the Church.

Ideally, the best preparation for First Holy communion is for the parents/guardians to bring your child to Mass each Sunday and to pray with your children every day. Remember children will not do what you say, as much as they will do what you do. If you pray, they will learn to pray. If you come to Mass, they will go to Mass. If you are a person of faith, they will be much more likely to grow up to be people of faith and to have a moral compass that guides them throughout their lives, points them in the right direction and leads them to the Lord Jesus.
