FOREGLEN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
– please note we now have a clothing bank
at the Foreglen Community Centre which helps with
out funding and we would appreciate your support
if you could put any clothes into bin liner bags.
You can put in towels, sheets, blankets, shoes,
curtains and clothes. We also have a bottle bank
at the Centre for the Community.
CHILD PROTECTION &
OUR CHURCH – Over the last number
of months a group of representatives from our
parish as a whole have undertaken training and
been attending information sessions on how best
to implement Child Protection Policies 7 Procedures
within our Parish Churches here in Banagher. This
has not just been a practice unique to Banagher,
representatives from all Parishes in the Diocese
of Derry have been involved in respect of their
own Parishes and Churches. The Banagher Parish
Representatives would like to share with you,
our parishioners, information regarding their
work to date. To this end all parishioners are
invited to a series of meetings being held, in
the coming weeks, in the 3 areas of the Parish
– Park, Feeny and Foreglen.
Feeny – St Joseph’s Hall, Monday 25th
February 2008 at 7.30pm
Park – The Parochial Hall, Monday 3rd March
2008 at 7.30pm; and
Foreglen – The Community Centre, Monday
10th March at 7.30pm
The representatives would particularly request
that:
- any person who works with children in our Parish;
- any person/group who uses parish property;
- parents of Altar Servers, Children in Choirs,
etc;
- Any Parish Worker, paid or voluntary, eg savings
collectors, Eucharistic Ministers; etc
Would try to attend one of the Meetings. If you
cannot make the Meeting in your own area of the
Parish, perhaps you could attend one of the other
venues. The Banagher Parish Representatives would
be very grateful for your help in this matter
(NB this is not an exhaustive list and no
matter how small a role you think you play in
Parish life, it is essential that you try to attend
one of the Meetings).
BANAGHER PARISH GROUP
– For the past nine or ten months, Fr John
has been meeting a small group from the Parish
with a view to looking at some sort of Parish
renewal. This group represented the three parts
of our parish; two people from each end. We met
about four or five times. We were trying to identify
different areas of need in the Parish. There was
no agenda, we met in faith to be guided by the
Spirit. The conclusion we have reached to date
is that there needs to be more ownership of our
Parish by the people of the Parish. We need to
take more responsibility in the running and the
organising of day to day routine as well as looking
at more major areas of need. To be able to do
this better it was decided at the last meeting
that we now need more people on board. This will
give us a wider vision. With this in mind there
will be a box in each of the Chapels next weekend
and everyone is asked to nominate those whom we
think would be good at this. What sort of person
should we nominate? Someone who firstly has an
interest in Church and Parish. Someone who has
an openness to change and who will not be afraid
moving forward and bringing others with them.
Please give this some thought. This is important
for the future of our parish and the spiritual
health of our children. Thank you for your help
and co-operation.
We need information for this section
of the website. If you are part of any parish
society or organisation, and you have some information
for us, please email it to Josephine at ...
