Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion – Sunday, 28th March 2010
...Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

The week ahead, known to us as Holy Week, is the most important time of the whole year for us as Christians to grow in a knowledge of what our faith is about. Unfortunately it has increasingly become a time of heading to the sun for so many people. During this week we are put in touch with the reality of Christ’s death on the Cross for us and the wonderful knowledge of his Resurrection from the dead. We are also put in touch with the reality of the human condition that can change so quickly from enthusiasm to hatred as on Palm/Passion Sunday or from love to cowardice as on Holy Thursday. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are particularly important for us to give time to prayer and reflection that are provided for in the various liturgies. The Church is greatly weakened when people don’t give this time. Will you?

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

First Reading : Isaiah 50: 4-7
The prophet suffers in carrying out his mission, but is confident that God will vindicate him.

Second Reading: Philippians 2: 6-11
Because Jesus took on himself our human condition and accepted death on a cross,
the Father has made him Lord of heaven and earth.

Gospel: Luke 22: 14-23:56
Luke’s version of the Passion Story. As in the rest of his Gospel, so in his account of the Passion,
Luke presents a Christ who is merciful and forgiving even to his executioners.

Clothing Bank

Once again the clothing bank has been broken into. We would ask the residents of the village if they see any suspicious activity around the community hall to please let us Know. 77781876.

Anti Social Behaviour

We have over the last couple of months or so been made aware of an increase in anti social behaviour in the village. Stone throwing at cars and at windows of homes, and the destruction of property. The names of children/young people seen carryiing out these acts have been given to our Project Coordinator. The community notice board at the community hall has also been vandalised. This will cost £130 to replace. Whilst this behaviour is being carried out by a small number of children we would ask all residents of the area to be vigilant and to contact the community office if they are suffering the effects of anti social behaviour or know who the perpetrators are 777 81876.
