Easter Sunday - The Resurrection of the Lord

Reflection

Faith reborn at Easter needs to grow and be nourished by the Eucharist which makes the death and resurrection of Jesus constantly present among us. At Easter we say ‘yes’ again to the central core of our faith. Christ is Risen. No words can explain resurrection, it was only the love of the women who were so close to Jesus, the insight of the beloved disciple and of the trusted Peter, that could experience the empty tomb and realize what had happened. It is in hearts filled with love that faith takes root and flourishes. On Easter Sunday, we pray for a deeper love for the Saviour in our own lives that faith may grow strong and deep, so that our faith may be a consolation and eternal life our hope.

Parish Missal p 239 and Proper 1034

First Reading Acts 10: 34.37-43
This is part of an early sermon preached by St Peter in which he proclaims the risen Jesus to be the Saviour of those who believe in him, and judge of the living and the dead.

Second Reading Colossians 3: 1-4
Through our Baptism we already share in the risen life of Christ, though in a hidden and mysterious way.

Gospel John 20: 1-9
On their finding Jesus’ tomb empty, the truth of his resurrection begins to dawn on his disciples.

optional Gospel choice for the Day Mass: Mk 16:1-7
