Palm Sunday of The Lord's Passion

Let’s have a truly Holy Week!

In times past the world seemed to slow down and it was easier on a certain level to make this week holy. Now, it clearly has to be a personal commitment that each one of us makes. We have to choose to pause from our normal, busy routine and to give this week to God. We have to choose to pray, to meditate upon what Christ did for us, and to take part in the beautiful liturgies prepared for us. Let this week be a truly ‘holy week’ for all of us.

THE POPE'S INTENTIONS FOR MARCH 2008
General:
That the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation between individuals and
peoples may be understood and that through her testimony the Church may spread
Christ's love, the source of new humanity.
Mission: That Christians persecuted because of the Gospel in various parts of the world
and in various manners may be sustained by the strength of the Holy Spirit and continue
to bear witness courageously and openly to the Word of God.

GOOD FRIDAY is a day of fast and abstinence. This means we eat only one main meal and two very small meals. Fasting is closely associated with prayer; that is why we are asked to fast as part of our Lenten sacrifices on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The other half of the sacrifice this day is abstaining. This meant traditionally eating fish in place of meat as this was seen as a sacrifice, but today many of us prefer fish to meat anyway, so there is no sacrifice in that. We should abstain from food we enjoy this day. That is the true meaning of abstinence.
