The Lord is My Light and My Salvation

“What I want is mercy not sacrifice”. Aren’t we great people for working hard and giving so much of ourselves? And yet we can be so unhappy. The clue to life is found once again in the word of Jesus in the Liturgy for this week. Love is not so much doing things, as treasuring this other person as s/he is. That often takes mercy, which is about holding another gently in our minds and hearts and arms. This is particularly true of family life. Parents are generally very generous people and yet the complaint of so many young people is that their parents don’t listen to them. This is often because the parents are so busy getting things for their family rather than spending time with them. Married couples need to also listen to this message of Jesus and practice relaxing with each other. And in our parish we all need to contribute to a community that is built on reverence rather than ritual.

Dear Lord,
Help me approach my exams

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION – This weekend in St Joseph’s we celebrate with the children of P4 and their families. As the children come to receive Christ for the first time we pray that this will be a lifelong relationship with God in the Holy Eucharist. It can be, but it needs the support of those same families and friends each sweekend to bring the children back time and again to Christ. Family prayer, even one Our Father together each day can cement a friendship between a child and Jesus forever.
